For several decades, the United Nations has promoted initiatives that seek to fix the  economic, social, and environmental problems of the world, through a joint effort of the public, private, and social sectors. In essence, this global commitment to people’s socioeconomic development and the preservation of the environment is linked to Grupo Rotoplas’ focus on sustainability and value generation.

Following the presentation of the UN’s 2030 Agenda, in 2016, Grupo Rotoplas integrated the assessment of its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) into its Sustainability Strategy.

Grupo Rotoplas contributes to SDG 6 “A Clean Water and Sanitation”, and a significant contribution to SDG 9 “Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure” focused on the impact of water solutions and infrastructure development, beyond operating performance.

Evaluation of the contribution to the SDGs and integration into Grupo Rotoplas’s sustainability strategy
The evaluation of Grupo Rotoplas’ contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals came from the process of the materiality. This analysis enabled us to identify the topics of sustainability that are closely linked to the business model and solutions offered by Grupo Rotoplas, which in turn help to solve, directly and indirectly, the issues discussed by the United Nations. The process of evaluating Grupo Rotoplas’ contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and their connection to Grupo Rotoplas’ Sustainability Model was done based on the methodology established by sdg Compass,

We define our direct and indirect contribution to the SDGs, which we divide into three scopes:

6.2 By 2030, achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all and end open defecation, paying special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations
6.3 By 2030, improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing release of hazardous chemicals and materials, halving the proportion of untreated wastewater and substantially increasing recycling and safe reuse globally
6.4 By 2030, substantially increase water-use efficiency across all sectors and ensure sustainable withdrawals and supply of freshwater to address water scarcity and substantially reduce the number of people suffering from water scarcity

Second scope
Goal 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation 9.5 Enhance scientific research, upgrade the technological capabilities of industrial sectors in all countries, in particular developing countries, including, by 2030, encouraging innovation and substantially increasing the number of research and development workers per 1 million people and public and private research and development spending
